Systems Administrator

The Opportunity
Healthcare Communications Group (“HCG”), located in El Segundo, California, is a leading pharmaceutical clinical trials consulting and communications organization. HCG assists global pharmaceutical companies in more efficiently recruiting patients for their FDA-mandated clinical studies. HCG utilizes economic/feasibility analysis as well as innovative television, radio, print and community outreach to drive its global subject enrollment campaigns. Accelerating these clinical trials allows life-changing medications to be approved and available to the public more quickly. HCG is seeking a Systems Administrator who will provide first level support and administration of all systems including, Servers, Phone Systems, switches, appliances, applications and networking services including:

  • Windows Servers 2008/2003
    • DHCP, DNS, Active Directory
    • Print Servers
    • Sharepoint
  • Exchange 2007
  • File Servers
  • Symantec Backup Exec
  • Symantec Enterprise Protection Suite
  • Quickbooks
  • Scriptlogic – Desktop Authority
  • Blackeberry Enterprise Server
  • SonicWALL Firewall/VPN Devices
  • SonicWALL Spam Filter
  • HP Procurve Switches
  • ACT 2010 Premium
  • Webroot SaaS

Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Second point of contact for HelpDesk tickets
  • Support Office 2010 Application level issues, integration with 3rd party apps under the guidance of the Sr. IT Manager
  • Support and assist the Jr. Systems Administrator troubleshoot Windows XP/7system issues and helpdesk ticket requests
  • Troubleshoot network related issues
  • Inventory tracking of network hardware, software and operating systems and all related IT equipment
  • Assess potential security threats (i.e. viruses, application bugs, etc.) to the network and associated systems
  • Support Enterprise Antivirus Software
  • Keep all Desktop and Server operating systems software up to date. (Windows Updates)
  • Escalate problems and requests according to established procedures
  • Research end-user problems to determine root cause and create policies and procedures to help mitigate reoccurrences.
  • Create documentation for policies and procedures.
  • Provide support on administrative tasks, such as password resets, permission management, account creations, software installations, etc.
  • Maintain accountability and ownership of issue/ request tickets: Provide closed looped contact with end-users to verify final solution and determine satisfaction level.
  • Provide proactive end-user management notification of problems
  • Assists in performing periodic software backups and preventative maintenance
  • Other duties may include scripting or light programming, assistance with project management for systems-related projects, supervising or training users, and other special project or duties as assigned.
  • Participate in training required to develop and maintain skills necessary to support end-users
  • Requires periodic availability before and after core business hours and on-call as needed outside normal business operations

Qualifications

  • High level of proficiency in basic computer skills with a passion for technology
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience with Microsoft based server operating systems and applications including data systems management and advanced hardware/software administration
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems (Windows XP/7)
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook in the enterprise)
  • Strong knowledge of File Servers and shared network devices (printers)
  • Strong knowledge of computer networking
  • General knowledge of network design, system design, and data communication
  • Understanding of Blackberry and Smart Phone technology
  • General knowledge of database operations
  • General knowledge of backup systems and software
  • General knowledge of Imaging Software a plus
  • General knowledge of a help desk ticketing system a plus
  • General knowledge of Mac OS X (10.5/10.6) a plus
  • Possesses working knowledge of multi-platform computer software and hardware a plus
  • Ability to learn new skills quickly with minimal guidance, self-starter able to work with minimal supervision
  • Must have strong documentation skills experience, with ability to develop documentation for common processes for both IT staff and users
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting capabilities
  • Attention to detail: Provide accurate and complete descriptions of problems, inquiries and requests in a problem management ticket
  • Excellent organization skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and competing tasks/priorities
  • Effective written and verbal interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Requires the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Requires the ability to work shifts outside of normal working hours
  • Requires the ability to be on call and support a 24x7x365 operations
  • Requires the ability to support both planned and unplanned events

The individual should be solution-oriented, able to act independently, and able to proactively communicate with clients, vendors, team members and other stakeholders. Qualified candidates will be skilled in handling challenging customer and vendor circumstances and possess the ability to work under strict deadlines and daily “service-model” pressure. Client management, social skills, attention to detail and consistently providing excellence to clients are imperative.

Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field of study or equivalent experience in IT environment required
